LAUNDRY RENOVATIONS IN MURRUMBEENA

A laundry is a wet area that works harder than most bathrooms: a machine that drains at speed, a tub full of muddy boots, and a floor that has to cope when a hose lets go. Bathroom Renovation Murrumbeena renovates laundries with the same trades and running order we use in bathrooms, for homes in Murrumbeena, Carnegie, Oakleigh, Chadstone and nearby suburbs.

LAYOUT · WASHER & DRYER

START WITH THE MACHINES

Where the washer and dryer go sets the bench height, the plumbing points and how much storage is left. We settle it at the design stage, before anything is ordered.

Side by side under the bench

Both machines sit under a continuous benchtop, giving you a folding surface right where the washing comes out. It needs wall width, but keeps everything at an easy reach.

Stacked in a tall bay

The dryer sits on the washer in a cabinet bay, freeing bench length for a tub and drawers. It suits front-loaders fitted with a proper stacking kit.

European or cupboard laundry

For units and smaller homes, the laundry lives behind doors in a hallway or kitchen, with a compact tub, a waste point and ventilation planned in. Tight on space overall? See Small Bathroom Renovations.

FIT-OUT · BENCH TO CEILING

BENCHES, TUBS AND STORAGE

Once the machines have a home, the rest of the wall is planned around how you actually wash, dry and store.

Bench and tub

A benchtop with a drop-in or undermount tub suits most laundries. A deep utility sink suits heavier cleaning. We place the tap and waste so machine hoses reach without strain.

Tiled splashback

Tiles behind the tub and bench protect the wall and wipe clean. Running them up to the overhead cupboards gives a cleaner line. See Bathroom Tiling for tile options.

Overhead and tall storage

Overhead cupboards keep detergents out of children’s reach, and a tall cabinet takes the broom, mop and ironing board. Custom Cabinetry builds these to the room.

Hanging space

A hanging rail or pull-out drying rack above the bench gives shirts somewhere to go straight from the dryer.

TRADE 08 · WATERPROOFING

FLOOR WASTE, FALLS AND MEMBRANE

A laundry floor has to handle overflows, not just splashes. Where a floor waste is included, the screed is shaped to fall toward it so water drains away instead of pooling under the cabinets. The membrane runs across the floor and up the walls around the tub and machines, then cures before tiling starts.

It is the same stage we run in showers. Read more on our Waterproofing page or in the Bathroom Waterproofing Guide.

STAGE 01–12

THE SAME RUNNING ORDER

A laundry follows the full renovation process. Nothing is tiled before the waste is set and the membrane has cured. See the 12-stage process.

QUESTIONS

LAUNDRY RENOVATION QUESTIONS

Can the laundry and bathroom be renovated together?

Yes. Both rooms use the same plumbing, waterproofing and tiling trades, so they can be scheduled as one renovation. Mention both rooms when you request a quote.

Can a laundry fit in a cupboard?

Often. A European laundry needs a water supply, a waste point, power and ventilation, which we check at the assessment stage.

Can the laundry move to another spot?

Moving it means relocating water, waste and power. Whether that makes sense depends on the floor structure and where the drains run, which we look at on site.

What affects the cost?

Layout changes, cabinetry, benchtop and tile choices, and whether plumbing moves all play a part. The Bathroom Renovation Cost Guide explains the main factors.
